Published to commemorate the exhibition “Atsushi Kitagawara: The Constellation of Time and Space” held at the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection (June 7, 2025 – May 17, 2026), this volume is the first book written in Japanese by the internationally active architect Atsushi Kitagawara.

Architect Atsushi Kitagawara (b. 1951), who designed the Nakamura Keith Haring Collection, first expressed the fictitious nature of the city through architecture with the Shibuya cinema RISE (1986). Since then, he has continued to draw attention for his highly original works that explore the boundaries of architecture and the human imagination.

The section “Space” presents installation views and exhibits from the exhibition, tracing the architectural process of the museum through models, drawings, and documents. Centered on the six elements that constitute the building—Inverted Cone, Darkness, Giant Frame, Nature, Hope, and Colliding Walls—the book features commentary in the architect’s own words.

The section “Time” unfolds the story of the design’s evolution leading up to the museum’s completion, introducing previously unpublished materials not included in the exhibition.

Enriched with a comprehensive chronology spanning forty years of Kitagawara’s career and a wide range of essays illuminating the origins of his architectural thinking, this publication offers an in-depth exploration of the architect’s creative universe.
