Based in Brooklyn, New York. She grew up in Southern California, to artist parents. Ever since she was little, she loved drawing and making up stories. After studying printmaking and illustration at the University of California, Santa Cruz, she attended the Juilliard School to study theater. While she was on the New York stage for 13 years, she started producing picture books. For her book, her debut, she has been nominated for numerous awards, including the Stone Wall Award and the Bologna Ragazzi Award for Opera Prima.
