At the heart of Keith Haring’s artistic practice was the act of "drawing lines." He extended this expression not only to canvases and subway walls but also to human skin, broadening the scope of his artistic impact.
This book explores how Haring’s life and art shaped cross-racial interactions and expressions of identity, connecting performance studies, critical race studies, and queer theory. It examines the ways Haring navigated and represented racial and cultural dynamics through his collaborations and artistic choices.
Through collaborations with diverse artists, including dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones, graffiti artist LA II, and superstar Grace Jones, the book delves into how Haring perceived and reflected racial and cultural differences in his work.
In addition to highlighting the creative potential and positive impacts of interracial artistic collaborations, the book critically addresses challenges arising from a lack of equality and cultural differences within these exchanges.
